The International Master Fitter Competition 2008

International Automotive Glass Federation™ has decided on the details of The International Master Fitter Competition 2008. This international competition for autoglass specialists will take place during tradeshow glasstec in Düsseldorf, Germany, 21 – 25 October 2008.

“The competition is originally developed by the AGE”, says Pim de Ridder, managing director of InterAutoGlass. “Its history is based on the efforts of Messe Düsseldorf during the last glasstec tradeshows to give a platform to the automotive glass replacement and repair market. We as new global federation are very proud to take part in it. And we will be actively involved in this huge event as in the national Dutch and German competitions, also taking place during glasstec”.

The competition is open to the winner of national competitions, held with the same criteria as the international version.  De Ridder: “We call such a winner the national hero. They will compete on the repair of a windscreen / windshield damage and on the replacement of a side window, a rear window and a windscreen. Each participating country will also nominate a member of the jury, headed by Arne Hansen from Norway.  I’m sure all participants are imbued with their crucial role in the safety of the driver and the vehicle passengers. Therefore quality and quality only is the device of our competition.”

A series of countries already committed themselves to send their “heroes”. The application for participation has to be sent to InterAutoGlass before 15th of August 2008.

First part The International Master Fitter Competition held in Japan (15 March 2008)

On 15th March 2008 the J.A.G.U. National Automotive Glass Technical Contest was held during the 7th International Auto Aftermarket in Tokyo, Japan. The competition was organised by J.A.G.U., the Japanese member organisation of the International Automotive Glass Federation. The event was the first in a row of national Master Fitter Competitions, organised under the auspices of the Federation.

An audience of 300 visitors watched the performances of six autoglass specialists, each winner of earlier regional competitions. In his speech during the award presentation J.A.G.U. President Hisashi Ebina underlined the professionalism of all participants. “You all are good models of the need of high quality on our jobs, especially for the safety of car drivers and their passengers”, he said.

The ultimate Japanese champion Toshiyuki Isohata will represent Japan during The International Master Fitter Competition® 2008 later on this year.

Official Training Launch in Dublin (06 March 2008)

Fred Sørensen and Pim de Ridder, chairman and managing director of the International Automotive Glass Federation were proud of being invited to the Official 2008 Training Network Launch in Dublin early March. Both representatives welcomed the initiative of Allied Irish Windscreens to be the national partner of Skillnets and therefore acting for the entire AGRR industry.

Skillnets is an enterprise-led support body dedicated to the promotion and facilitation of learning as a key element in sustaining Ireland’s national competitiveness. Skillnets supports networks of enterprises to engage in training under the Learning Networks Programme. These Learning Networks, now referred to as ’Skillnets’, are led and managed by the enterprises themselves and have created and delivered training programmes across a broad range of industry and service sectors nationwide.

“International exchange on training programmes is one of the key activities of our Federation”, Pim de Ridder said. “And we are most willing to help our member Allied Irish Windscreens in fulfilling its duty. On the other hand all member organisations of InterAutoGlass will benefit from the enlarged training network being available now in Ireland”.

The Minister of State Billy Kelleher showed his responsibility for labour affairs by being present during the launching event.
